This is a blog for Georgia Tech’s summer exchange program with Monterrey Tech. We are hanging out and studying in Monterrrey, Mexico for 2007 summer.

Student Bios

David K. Alejandre was born in Mexico on June 28th 1985, David grew up as an only child. He attended the Colegio Irlandes or Irish insitute all his life, when he was 15 he moved to the U.S. to do High School at St. Anthony Catholic High School in San Antonio Texas. After that he decided to stay for a couple of years then decided to come back to Mexico to finish his College studies, since 12 he has been involved in music and at the age of 14 got his first musical instrument. Music has been a big priority in his life and with true interest for a series of instruments decided to start his own online band and put music out on the web. At the same time he is looking to finish his education in order to make music for a living hopefully he will be able to get a record deal way before that happens and travel the world playing music. His hobbies vary from playing soccer or watching it, he loves to watch football, NBA and pretty much any sport but the three main ones are soccer, football and basketball in that exact order. He also likes to chat and go out with friends on the weekend or weekdays. His favorite soccer team is Real Madrid, fave football team the Cowboys and basketball the Spurs. This little ginger, known to many as Nikki D.Pebs Carlson, comes from a land far, far away, commonly known to modern day archeology as Atlanta, Georgia. She has resided there her entire 19 years of existance in the company of her older brother and two younger sisters. She graduated from Marist School in 2006, where she played on the soccer and volleyball teams. She continued studying at Georgia Institute of Technology, where she is majoring in International Affairs and Attempting to Speak Spanish. At Georgia Tech she is involved different organizations such as her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, Options Committee, and GT Heros. She also loves the color green, Facebook, her friends (although she doesn’t have quite as many as Sarah Morse), and she hates roaches and corn caserole more than anything in the world. Nallely is a student at Tec de Monterrey, her major is: international relations, sixth semester. She comes from Tlaxcala, Tlax., Mexico. At ITESM she plans on graduating with two degrees. She spent one year (2006-2007) in Clermont-Ferrand France, studying for a bachelor in management at the ESC (école supérieure de commerce). She loves to travel, to know places and meet people. Kristin Alexis Clay is a fourth-year student of Management and Spanish at Georgia Tech, and plans to graduate in 2008 with hopes of one day working with non-profit or arts organizations. The last four years, Kristin has danced and choreographed professionally for The Georgia Ballet in Marietta, GA, and Artisan Dance in Helena, MT, and has been accepted to study with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, sewing, and playing with her ten-year-old brother John. Read Kristin’s posts »

Elva González is a student at Tec de Monterrey, her major is Journalism class of 2009. She has worked in Campus.Mty and enMedio, gazettes involved in the students’ life at Tec and news from around the world. Alicia Keen is studying International Affairs and Spanish at Georgia Techwiththe graduating class of 2007. In addition to her major, she also is pursuing a certificate in Latin American Politics and a secondary focus in Japanese. She had an exciting childhood in Alpharetta, Georgia and now resides in the downtown area of Atlanta. Read Alicia’s posts »

Anjli is a fourth year chemistry major at Georgia Tech. Aside from doing research on contrast agents to assist with cancer identification and cancer treatment, she is actively involved with community service on campus. She the current president of Alpha Phi Omega, the premier national community service fraternity. Anjli also spends a lot of time singing in the new Indian a cappella group, Taal Tadka, and dancing with the fusion Indian dance team, Junoon. Read Anjili’s posts »

Karen Landa is a student of International Affairs. She is studying the 4th semester at Tecnologico de Monterrey. She graduated from high school andspecialized in tourism and then she started her major. She also practices classical ballet and she has done some presentations. She has a little baby, six months old, so she combines her studies with her mother activities; that means, take care of her daughter, do some home labors and study for her classes. She is a girl who loves to travel, to meet new people, and to learn new things, like playing an instrument, painting or another language. Stephanie Lohr is a second year Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering major with a minor in Spanish. She attends the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, but is originally from Richmond, Virginia. Stephanie is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, Dance Marathon and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is also in the co-op program where she will start her first work term with Roche this fall. She intends on completing her undergraduate degree and pursuing a position in the pharmaceutical industry. In this industry, she hopes to design new medications and work to get existing medications to third world countries. Stephanie will graduate in May of 2011. Read Stephanie’s posts »

My name is Jesus Carlos Garcia Martinez I am from Saltillo Coahuila, Mexico. I study at ITESM´s campus in Monterrey. I am studying political science and I will graduate in 2009. I really like politics, and I would like to work for the government. I am in a school group in which we plan and make events for students. My name is Rafael Moreno, but my friends in Mexico call me “paintor” because I like to do portraits and stuff. I was born in Monterrey, Mexico. At Georgia Tech I plan on graduating with two degrees, Building Construction and Management (I couldn’t stand Architecture anymore). I am currently a sophomore here. During my free time I like to play soccer and, of course, enjoying the nightly activities my native country has to offer. “Energy drinks” here in Mexico are quite effective, and you can ask my fellow study abroad classmates for verification. Sarah Morse (International Affairs, GT ‘10) is a Denver, Colorado native who braved the humidity and greasy foods to attend college in the South. She is currently thinking about minoring in History, but is not quite sure how to go about doing that. Vincent Palacios (Economics and International Affairs, GT ’07) was born in San Jose, California a long time ago (relatively speaking). When he was two his family moved to Marietta, Georgia, where he was raised. While studying at GA Tech he decided against a career in Engineering after two and a half years and started studying International Affairs in 2004. Since then he has also decided to include economics in his degree in addition to a minor in history and a certificate in Latin American studies, all of which interest him greatly. After he graduates in December he hopes to work in Washington D.C. in the field of economic development before pursuing an advanced degree. Don’t screw it up. Read Vincent’s posts »

Alexis (Lexi) Pardee is a Georgia Tech ‘09 International Affairs and Modern Languages student. Her family lives in Lawrenceville, Georgia and she has lived there since 7th grade. She enjoys being outdoors, playing golf, seeing new places, and eating good food. She wants to be an inner city elementary school teacher and can’t wait to change the world! Stephanie Stout is a second-year Aerospace Engineering major at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Stephanie is also pursuing a minor in International Affairs. In addition to studying abroad this summer at Tec de Monterrey, she would like to participate in the Oxford Summer Program in the future. During her time at Georgia Tech, Stephanie has been a member of M&M Mentoring, the Student Center Programs Council, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Society of Women Engineers. Matt Watkins (International Affairs and Modern Languages, GT ’10) is originally from Norcross, Georgia. His interests include politics, reading, writing, skiing, and baseball. Currently, he is studying Spanish along with this class in Monterrey. He hopes to some day work for an NGO that champions the cause of fair trade as well as pursue a master’s degree in journalism. Ryan Willis (Economics and International Affairs, GT ‘08) is native to the state of Georgia. He once thought that he might be able to escape the heat of Atlanta with a summer in Mexico. He was wrong. While in Mexico Ryan enjoys eating guacamole and having limes with everything. When asked constantly what he wants to do after graduation Ryan´s standard reply is, “maybe get a job”. Presenting to you Adina Yura:
Adina was born and raised in the A-T-L where she is still living, after 20 years. She is a third year International Affairs major at Georgia Tech and, in the process of earning her degree, hopes to become fluent in Spanish. Adina played volleyball for 4 years, swam for 12 years, and likes to stay active now on her own. She has been lucky enough to visit various parts of Mexico over the past five years, and is now excited about discovering a foreign city on her own. Adina values her friends and family above all else, and she loves new experiences, good food, and fun times. Finally, since this sounds like an auction…
